crossed signals

I loathe SBC. Today I discovered that I could not, in fact, keep my existing phone number.

Aw crap. Normally I'd say "oh well" and shake it off but I've only been informed of this after waiting some three weeks to have my service, with that number, transferred from CoreComm to Ameritech. They'd told me that I'd be able to move it without trouble from the old address to the new one, more than once.

They told me I could move my phone number to the house. They did say that there would be a slight delay (namely the aforementioned three weeks) but I reasoned that I'd put up with that for the sake of keeping a number of which I'd become somewhat fond.

Those lying bastards. I can't keep it without paying some several hundred "foreign exchange" fees, and it was only with much agitation that I got the guy to admit that. So today I put in an order for a new number and it will likely be done tomorrow. Just as I could have done the day after we closed on the house almost a month ago.

I'm not sure what significance this has, but the first number they offered me spelled "to kill I" on the keypad. Draw your own conclusions.
