consider my enthusiasm curbed

It’s a rare treat that gets me to do the wheezing, near-silent laugh, but tonight it was elicited from my by a moment in (of all things) a television show. True to form I’ve been staying up far too late watching DVDs, but this time around it’s the first season of Larry David’s HBO show Curb your enthusiasm. I’d searched the library for “first season AND dvd” and just started reserving things, er, sight unseen.

You know, at one time I watched an awful lot of the show Seinfeld, of which he was a creator/producer/writer, though now I don’t admit that unless I can come up with a pertinent anecdote at the same time. Anymore I find the show somewhat abrasive, but then I used to laugh. I can definitely see what influence this guy had on that show.

Here, it’s sort of funny. He’s sort of funny. A lot of the humor is the sort where people need to cringe while they laugh, but taken in these small doses I think I can take it. If nothing else the writers are really good. If this is, in fact, meant to be a skewering of reality/celebrity shows they’ve succeeded admirably. Then again, I’m only watching it after 11pm, so naturally it’s funnier.
