nice rack?

Hey, drop me an email if you came here directly ... I'd like to know where this got linked from. please!

I use a lot of "found" furniture in my apartment, and one such piece was the TV stand that held my receiver, cd player and stuff. It didn't look very nice, and it was really starting to sag badly once I added the turntable to the top of the stack.

So, being the internet junkie that I say I'm not, I started to look around for a better way to store my equipment. One day in class I had a brainstorm for a relatively easy-to-build cabinet that I could make from a pair of 4x8 sheets of plywood that would have pegged shelves, etc. but before I put much more serious thought into that idea I came across what is called The Flexy Rack.

A mainstay of home theatre forums and hardcore d-i-y/audiophile junkies, the flexy rack is a simple design that's easy to build, sturdy and pretty cool looking.

From the time I decided to build it to the current state of completion was about two weeks, most of the time waiting to see if I could get shelves from IKEA.

So here's what you're looking at there:

Hiding on the side next to the rack is my cheesy computer subwoofer -- when I put the system together I wanted that extra .1 (of 5.1) and that's the best I could come up with. For a small apartment it puts out almost enough bass.

You may notice the copious lack of a DVD player. This is because I use my computer's DVD drive with my DXR3 to play my over 130 DVD movies . It works fine for me and it was a lot cheaper than a standalone player.

So that's what I've got.
