What does it do?
If you're looking for a random flickr photo that is licensed (see below) for your re-use, and you want it to be recent and interesting (at least, how the flickr folks define interesting), then this tool is for you. It's automatically updated every day with the most recent several days' worth of photos.
If you want another one, simply reload this page.
These pictures have all been licensed with licenses by Creative Commons that do not prohibit derivative works. You should check the photographer's Profile page (click the icon next to "Uploaded on ... by ..." on the right side to get to the Profile), and look at the license terms under "Additional Information" on the right side of the photo page under the Tags. Most photographers require attribution, so at the very least link to the original photo to give credit and then check to see if the photographer would like something more for attribution. It's a little extra effort, but it's easier to respect licensing up front than to have to deal with it after the fact. There are potential additional terms for the usable licenses, but none that should restrict 'fun' like this:
- BY: Attribution You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work).
- NC: Non-commercial You may not use this work for commercial purposes.
- SA: Share Alike If you alter, transform, or build upon this work, you may distribute the resulting work only under the same, similar or a compatible license (so, no All Rights Reserved).
These are copies of the human-readable summaries of the license terms from Creative Commons. Their site has much more detail and real legal code.
