Subject: [SS] BEHA: potty problems
Hi group. I'm looking for help again. I recently placed a nice 3 year old
female with a great family. They love her dearly but she has some potty
issues. She sometimes likes to sneak downstairs in the middle of the night
and pee and poop in the dining room. They say that they take her out
often. They go to bed really early so I suggested changing her feeding
time. Does anyone know how soon after a dog eats that it usally has to go
potty? My own dogs are in and out all day so I've never bothered to figure
that out. She was only with me 10 days and had no accidents in my house.
Also, Bonnie, apparently goes nuts when a truck goes by the house. She
lunges at the windows. (While she was at my house she didn't get to do
this since I live on a farm and I'm 1/4 mile off the road.) They're now
realizing that the poopin' and peepin' insidents usually occur right after
the frantic truck frenzies. So I guess taking her out right after would
help.
I have absolutley no past history on this girl. Her original owner got her
from a breeder, I don't know who. The owner then went into a nursing home
and she gave Bonnie to her son who then was going to leave her at the
house when he moved! I've called all the vets in the area asking if any
had a sheltie named Bonnie but none have. So I'm at a total loss for
tracking down info on her.
My feelings are that they go to bed too early for Bonnie and that they
have to figure out something for the truck frenzies. But what?
They're in the process of putting up a fence for her and I do think that
will help. I think Bonnie just may not be used to pottying on lead. Then
once the fence is up maybe it'll be easier to get her right outside after
a truck goes by. They live in a quiet developement... except for those
darn oil trucks, school buses, cable company trucks etc.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Kathy
