Real fake news from 1998

This is obviously very time-sensitive. Back then I thought it was pretty funny. I never did find out if anybody else thought so too.

News from 1998 that you probably missed

Songwriter Elton John pulls
one off for the President

WASHINGTON-In a bold move without precedent in the White House, President Clinton and his wife Hillary have asked the highly successful Elton John to release a song to help Bill's declining approval ratings.
The singer/songwriter, whose last tribute song, for the death of Diana of Wales last September, rocketed to the top of the charts around the globe, hopes to score another hit. The event he is commemorating this time, however, is not quite as dismal as the princess' death.
It's new intern time in the White House, and this
year the First Couple wants to paint a positive picture of the selection process.
For the task, John has decided to again do a new version of an old classic.
Last year's "Candle in the Wind '97" was a remake of "Candle in the Wind", performed as a eulogy for Marilyn Munroe.
This time, he delved into his classics, pulling out 1974's "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me."
The President has high hopes for "Don't Let This One Go Down on Me."

Someday I may fix the layout. It's entirely possible that this looked exactly they way it should in some certain 1998-era browser, as long as the planets were correctly aligned and the resolution and page width were set just right.
